The 8th?

The day the gingers fell.

0600: Still asleep.
0615: Caterers stumble out of tents and start the fire.
0630: The rest of the expedition arises to the sound of chickens and drums.
0700: Biscuits and off to work.
0830: The first ginger falls. (Literally, but I'm fine)
0900: Team 2 finely ascend from their tents ready for their rest day.
1000: Team 2 head for paradise. The rest slowly crawled back to the build site.
1130: The next ginger falls.
1230: Lunch - Nuns buns and mash- and extra sun cream applied.
1400: With full water bottles, sun hats and sun glasses the group make their way through the heat to build site.
1430: The first ginger falls again. (Not literally this time. Again I'm fine mum.)
1500: The Machine is born.
1530: Intense mixing begins.
1640: For their hard work what's left of the ginger team go for early shower.
1700: The rest of the work group head for showers.
1800: Aftersun betrays ginger resulting in a nose bleed.
1900: Tea/Dinner. (choose your own)
1930: Team 2 arrive late back from the rest day.
2000: Own time, people do as they please.

By Tom Bates (The Machine) and Izzy West (I'm still alive mum.)

And now a comment from Oscar (The rest day broadcaster.)
Rest day.
We drove through a banana plantation.
Followed uphill by banana farmer guy (he looked homeless).
We found and showered in a water fall.
Walked back to car.
Still followed by banana guy.
Went to fancy pool.
Saw an Acrobatics show.
Ate cheese in sauce form.
Returned to camp.

  5. I'm glad you are still alive my ginger one (imagine if it was Betty falling there would be a broken bone.) I thought they had you risk assessed to avoid most work as your natural agility 😁😁😁, can leave you a little clumsy.I m sure all the sun tan lotion and aftersun is being used well by your team. Have you run out yet? It's pouring down here so the wet cat's aren't happy as it's at the front and back of the house again! Missing you lots , although we enjoyed your helping of carrots and dessert at grandma's on Sunday. Sending hugs .It's also strange without you and the girls hanging around the house. No sleepover to clean up after.in fact having less clothes to wash is lovely, I presume all yours will be clean in your bag when you bring it home? Take more care and have fun .xxMum and Marc Xx

  6. Well..doesn't time fly? Well done to one and all for all that you have already done and for all that you are continuing to do. Euan, Dad and I are off to seek some southern Spanish sunshine in the wee small hours.Leaving Belle at home to hold the fort, or party, or whatever! It was becoming boring to have little evidence of teenage/young person habitation anyway! We will continue to follow your progress with keen interest. xxx
Love to all, from The Lodges.

  8. Oh poor Gingers! It must look odd when there's Gary with ginger skin and Bob with a tan?! You're doing so well in the scorching conditions. Enjoy your trips to paradise, sounds like a Timotei advert from the 1980's. Lots of love, Wx (Bob's Mum)

  10. Hello there holly (in the high pitched Scottish accent of mrs doubtfire). all sounds well in Tanzania apart from the worrying situation involving falling gingers.
Once again I envy the crew that went to the waterfall. The closest I would get is standing under a broken drain pipe in the rain with a bottle of radox alas 'tis only a dream.
Things here are in great swing as we launch space week! This has made me miss you more than ever as I realised I am in way over my head with this one and must have had a drink when I came up with it.
Of course our role model this week is indeed real person instead of fiction (goodbye jack sparrow) which you would think would make things easier! Yes, Brian Cox who apart from being a pop music dabbler, and lovely bit of fluff also knows a thing or two about space.
Some of our activities have already been ruined by the boys insisting spaceships do not really exist (tell that to captain Picard) and that most things in space are not made from tin foil!
While I sniggered away discreetly at how uniformed they all are, the conversation turned to Astro physics and quantum physics - where the heck did that come from at 11 and 9yrs old I wonder (holly?!).
They now take great delight in arguing with me about almost anything to do With space and we are at an impasse where I screaming 'because Brian bloody cox said so' to which they respond 'well dad said it isn't and Brian Cox doesn't know everything!'
The highlight of the day was when one of them states rather adamantly that Buzz someone or other went to the moon. I proudly stepped up and volunteered it was buzz lightyear which made dad tea snort out of his nose. Yep that impressed him alright!
Anyway we may have to scrap space week and move on.
Hopefully you can teach them a thing or two when you return and I'm thinking maybe a Tanzania week where you all build me a conservatory?!
    Til then
Lots o love from us and them

  12. The waterfall sounds like a good find. We have more water than we know what to do with and Ben is very grumpy, even though he put the heating on when i was out! I know other mums have said it about theirs but still no pics of Sam! I've seen pics of his rest days so about time I saw one of you earning those days xx

  15. I trust it wasn't you that fell holly, watched and learnt how not to fall over with my prime examples of how too. Almost ended up back on crutches today, I swear this guy in a mobility scooter came out of bloody nowhere and snuck up on me so when I turned around bam there he was prime to fall over and face plant straight into his lap. First and last time that close to a mans crotch hopefully. The Buffet was almost worth the uncomfortable few moments after the mishap, sure it will have nothing on the burgers you may get to consume tommorow, I'm imagining you decending on Arusha like a plague of locusts. Next time I tell you I'm going to attend a party of any persuasion where the vast majority of attendees will be over the age of 89, remind me there's only so many times you can hear about a persons catheter (pee tube) and strict bowel movement time table over a free buffet. Sure kev will welcome the sort of regularity these old folks have with their bowels, no surprises!
    Love stella x

  19. Hi Holly. Stella's just told me about these blogs and I'm so happy to see and hear what you've been up to. I'm so proud of what you're doing and I hope you're having fun as well as working hard! I'm home now and missing you... it's strange getting back believe me, sleeping on a mattress is just wrong I keep going to lay on the floor just to get a good nights sleep. Oh and I've only had 2 dark choc digestives since I've been back! I'm a changed woman honestly. Love you lots and can't wait to see you. Rach x

P.s. you'll laugh right I've been trying to publish this comment since last night. I was shouting at my phone no end because my name wasn't coming up with the comment, turns out I just needed to go onto the next screen. I even snapchat Stacey asking what to do but she was no help. Hahaha I must come across like a 90 year old woman when it comes to technology. Got there in the end after about 2 hours in total of being an absolute idiot! :)

  20. Sounds like a tough day (unless you're on a rest day).
Archie - I am sat in the sunshine at Ropner park writing this. Makes a change because it was a day of solid rain yesterday. Our Molly-dog has disgraced herself by nicking some women's food off her, as she was sat or a bench. She has also relentlessly scoured beneath the picnic tables for food. The charges go on.... she toyed with, then murdered two butterflies and yesterday ate a dead bird. YUK. Davy reminded me that she is a decendant of the wolf but still, it is disgusting!
Hope you are OK and looking after yourself. I'm interested in how the clothes washing has gone? Take care, love mum, dad and Davy x
